Apple Vision Pro: A New Era of Spatial Video and Mixed Reality

Apple’s spatial video is undergoing a complete metamorphosis with the release of iOS 17.2. This long-awaited update finally presents the opportunity to create and witness spatial images in one’s iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max. It’s an intriguing look at what the upcoming Apple Vision Pro will bring.

My experience shooting spatial video and reviewing it using Apple’s latest iPhone amplified my appreciation for the company’s innovation. The public beta version of iOS 17.2 will now enable users to shoot horizontal spatial video, an exciting new feature worth exploring.

The structural changes in the latest iPhone models have been meticulously engineered, complementing their spatial needs by moving both the 13mm ultrawide camera and the telephoto camera. The redesigned camera alignment opens the gateway to an immersive, dynamic experience when capturing stereoscopic and spatial videos.

Despite all the effort the iPhone invests in creating spatial videos, viewers won’t experience any delay. The videos can be played back instantly on the handset and will appear similar to any other 2D video. Despite these spatial files functioning as a new media format, they will show up on devices and systems like any regular 2D video.

I conducted a test on the new capability, shooting several videos using an iPhone 15 Pro. Noted in the iOS 17 developer beta, the iPhone made it effortless to deliver a stunning spatial video. The process involved simply navigating through a few settings to get the desired effect.

When watching videos within Apple’s Vision Pro headset, which does not require you to wear glasses, my focus was on how smoothly I could resize windows and view Apple Vision Pro Photos. It was captivating to interact with panoramic images from Arizona and Iceland, showcasing a 360-degree view of landscapes & natural wonders, further enhancing the unique spatial capabilities that the Apple Vision Pro offers.

The ability to present spatial video on the iPhone is just the initial step, with the broader goal being to entice users to experience mixed reality content. It has become evident that spatial video might be the product’s genuine game-changer. It has the potential to provide a breathtaking experience for users, unlocking a new dimension of viewing videos and images.
