Intel’s Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs have come under scrutiny in a new report that evaluated numerous chips from the 14th-gen range. This comprehensive test was conducted by German site, Igor’s Lab, and involved around 600 of Intel’s processors from both 14th-gen and 13th-gen for comparison. The processors were tested by five overclockers, with figures like quality and headroom for overclocking being revealed.
The results suggest that Raptor Lake Refresh processors are higher in quality than their predecessors. For example, the 14900K needed as low as 1398mV in four cases to hit full Turbo, demonstrating superior silicon quality. Furthermore, the report compares the standard 14900K against the 14900KF version, showing a marked difference in the quality of the latter. Overall, it is clear that Raptor Lake Refresh offers more headroom for overclocking.
While these results are not surprising, given the expected generational improvements, they do indicate that a buying decision for Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs should be based on current needs and upgrade requirements. However, for those intending to overclock, this new generation of Intel silicon offers more potential.
