Gigabyte’s announcement of AMD’s next-gen desktop APUs has created quite a stir in the tech world. According to the company, the next-gen APUs for the desktop are set to launch at the end of January 2024. A recent press release from Gigabyte mentioned that the beta BIOS release for AM5, the chipset for current-gen Ryzen 7000 processors, is now available. The release specifically references the upcoming desktop APUs, adding to the excitement and speculation.

These new processors are rumored to be the Ryzen 8000G models, which are equipped with relatively powerful graphics and are designed to be used in desktops, eliminating the need for a discrete GPU. The top-end Ryzen 8000G model is expected to feature eight cores and 16 threads, along with integrated RDNA 3 graphics with 12 compute units. Reports indicate that there will be four chips in the lineup, all based on Zen 4 architecture.

While these new APUs open up the possibility of affordable desktop computing without the need for a separate GPU, they may not be suitable for high-end gaming. However, they are expected to deliver satisfactory 1080p performance for more casual gamers.

In related news, the successor to the current-gen Ryzen 7000 processors, based on Zen 5, is expected to be released later next year, potentially being named the Ryzen 9000 models.

Taken together, these developments indicate an exciting new era for AMD’s processor technology. With a focus on delivering powerful performance and graphics capabilities in a compact, integrated design, consumers have much to look forward to in the near future.
