Nvidia Reportedly Halts Production on RTX 4080 and RTX 4070 Ti Graphics Cards
There are rumblings that Nvidia has stopped manufacturing its RTX 4080 and RTX 4070 Ti graphics cards. While this news should be taken with a grain of salt, reports suggest that production of these models has been halted by the tech giant.
The information comes from the Board Channels forums in China, which is not always the most reliable source, but has had success with leaks in the past. VideoCardz, which spotted the post on the forums, cautions that there may be some lost in translation, and the production stoppage could be more of a scaling down rather than a complete halting.
The reports also indicate that there may be new Super refreshes in the pipeline, which could be replacing the RTX 4080 and RTX 4070 Ti models. This aligns with previous rumors that Nvidia plans to drop the RTX 4080 when the revamped Super models emerge, possibly at CES 2024.
The discontinuation of the RTX 4070 Ti is also a surprise, and could be a sign that Nvidia has three refreshes planned for Lovelace, contrary to recent speculation that there may only be two. The addition of the RTX 4070 Ti Super might have been abandoned to streamline the lineup, as the presence of too many models in the same GPU tier may be overwhelming.
It is still unclear how the situation will unfold, and what incoming models will be competing for a place among the best graphics cards. It’s important to note that Nvidia doesn’t produce an RTX 4070 Ti Founders Edition, so the halt in production refers to the supply of chips to third-party manufacturers.
As always, we’ll have to wait and see as the situation develops.
