President Joe Biden has made a surprising move by joining Donald Trump’s Truth Social, a conservative social media site launched by the former president. The Biden campaign created an account under the handle @bidenhq and posted the message “let’s see how this goes. Converts welcome!” Interestingly, the account is currently only following Trump.
“We just joined Truth Social, mostly because we thought it would be very funny,” said the Biden campaign in a post on Twitter.
This move by the Biden campaign is seen as a way to reach out to conservative voters and hold “MAGA accountable on their own platform,” according to aides. They believe that despite the lack of “truth” on Truth Social, it will at least provide some entertainment.
Created by former President Trump, Truth Social has faced its fair share of challenges since its launch in February 2022. Marketed as a free-speech alternative to platforms like Facebook and Twitter, the site has gained notoriety for its controversial posts by Trump, which have even landed him in legal trouble.
Although Truth Social currently has around two million active users, it pales in comparison to the user bases of Facebook and TikTok, which have hundreds of millions or even billions of users.
Despite facing multiple legal challenges and charges, Trump is currently leading the polls in the race to become the Republican nominee for the next presidential election.
