Apple is gearing up to introduce OLED displays on the iPad Mini and iPad Air by 2026, following their implementation on both iPad Pro models next year. This news was initially reported by Taiwan’s ET News.

The iPad Air will retain its 10.9-inch display, while the iPad Mini’s screen will expand from 8.3 to 8.7 inches. Apple is also planning to incorporate OLED display technology in the rumored 12.9-inch iPad Air model in 2027, which is expected to launch with an LCD display early next year.

Additionally, the tech giant aims to upgrade the iPad Pro’s OLED panels in 2027 with a next-generation panel featuring improved light efficiency through Color Filter on Encapsulation (CoE), resulting in a 20% reduction in power consumption. The potential use of a color filter could pave the way for the integration of under-display camera technology on the iPad for the first time.

The report also suggests that Apple may introduce OLED technology to the 16-inch MacBook Pro in 2025, followed by the 14-inch model in 2026. Furthermore, the 13-and 15-inch MacBook Air models are expected to make the switch from LCD to OLED in 2026. Alongside these developments, Apple has announced plans to support the RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging standard on iPhones by late 2024.

In response to 9to5Mac, the company stated that RCS will provide better interoperability for cross-platform messages. This series of developments highlights Apple’s continued push for innovation in display technology and messaging standards.
