YouTube Unveils New Search and Management Features
YouTube has announced a major update that includes several new ways for users to search for and manage their content on the platform. The most notable change is the official launch of the search by song tool, which allows users to find a song by humming, singing, or playing a tune directly into YouTube. This feature uses AI technology to match the input to the original recording, similar to the Shazam app. The search by song tool was previously in beta testing and is now available to Android users, with an iOS release expected in the future.
To use the search by song feature, users need to activate Voice Search on YouTube and then switch to the Song recorder. They can then play, sing, or hum the tune for about three seconds into their phone’s microphone, and relevant official music content will appear on the screen.
In addition to the search by song tool, YouTube is introducing other features that will be more widely available. One of these is the You tab, which combines a user’s account page with their Library tab, allowing them to configure profile settings, find downloads, and access previously watched videos in one place. This eliminates the need to switch back and forth between sections.
The YouTube player is also receiving some enhancements. On mobile devices, a “Stable Volume” toggle switch is being added to reduce jarring volume differences, which can be helpful for content with poor audio mixing. Another new feature is the lock screen, which locks a smartphone or tablet display to prevent unwanted interruptions. Additionally, users can now press and hold down on the YouTube player to instantly increase the playback speed to 2x. This feature, called Press to 2x, will be available on web, mobile devices, and tablets.
These updates will be rolled out gradually to users worldwide over the coming weeks. YouTube also promises to bring modern design elements to other areas of the platform, including the YouTube Kids app.
