WhatsApp Introduces Email Sign-In Option in Latest iOS Update

In a recent iOS update, WhatsApp has unveiled a new sign-in method that allows users to log in by entering their email address. While there has been no formal announcement from Meta, the news comes from WABetaInfo, which revealed that the tool will be useful in situations where users are unable to receive a code via text message due to lack of cellular service.

This feature was initially spotted in a beta version in early November, and it was initially limited to a small group of users. With the latest update, iPhone users will have the option to enter their email to receive a six-digit code for signing in, serving as a backup method in addition to the usual phone number verification process.

However, it is important to note that this email sign-in option is only intended as a backup, and users will still be required to enter a phone number to create a new WhatsApp account. Additionally, the use of emails for account access will not be visible to others, as confirmed by 9To5Mac.

To try out this new feature, iPhone users will need to install WhatsApp for iOS version 23.24.70 and navigate to the Settings tab to access the email login option under the Account section. As of now, it is unclear whether this update will be available for Android users.

This latest security update is part of Meta’s ongoing efforts to enhance WhatsApp’s security features in 2023. It follows the introduction of the Protect IP Address tool and support for passkeys. Future updates are also expected, including the implementation of usernames on Android to provide an additional layer of privacy for users.

Overall, Meta’s commitment to improving security and privacy features on WhatsApp is evident through these recent updates, with even more developments expected in the future.
