OpenAI’s ChatGPT is now offering its Voice chat feature to all free users, conveniently taking the spotlight off OpenAI’s recent boardroom drama. This feature, previously limited to paid users, is now a available to everyone using the latest version of ChatGPT’s iOS or Android app.
Although this infers a distraction for OpenAI, there are still limitations to the feature. The GPT-3.5 model available to free users is only trained on data up to January 2022, so it won’t be able to answer recent questions. Additionally, there are reports of the service going down at times.
Despite these limitations, ChatGPT’s voice function offers a fun new tool for users, with the ability to choose from five different voices, save chats, and auto-detect languages. Users with an iPhone 15 Pro can also map ChatGPT to the new Action button, further enhancing user experience.
Even though Siri and ChatGPT have differences, ChatGPT is lauded for its depth of knowledge and more conversational style, making it a fun and free feature to play with. As OpenAI’s boardroom tussles continue, the impact on the AI chatbot industry in 2024 remains to be seen.
