Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff is sending mixed messages about the company’s hybrid working policy. In an interview with GQ, Benioff emphasized that people need to focus on being happy and that the optimal workforce balance isn’t a one-size-fits-all agenda. However, earlier this year, Salesforce employees were mandated to return to the office, showing that the company’s stance may not align with Benioff’s statements.

It’s not the first time Benioff has given conflicting messages – at Salesforce’s annual Dreamforce conference, he mentioned that he himself is a remote worker and that an office environment doesn’t work with his personality. However, he emphasized the need for his employees to have a mix of in-person and remote work, citing the productivity of engineers working from home.

Salesforce’s recent actions are in line with the trend of tech companies walking back remote working policies, with Google and Meta also announcing that workers are required to come into the office three days a week. This indicates a shift away from fully remote work environments in the tech industry.
