Intel’s upcoming Core i5-14400 processor is under scrutiny after rumors of its disappointing performance, according to a benchmark leak. The chip is set to be announced at CES 2024, along with other non-K versions of the new Raptor Lake Refresh desktop range. A leaker posted screenshots from CPU-Z showing that the single-core and multi-core benchmark tests achieved a score of 765 and 6,730, respectively.
However, these benchmark results suggest only a minor 2% uptick in performance compared to its predecessor, the Core i5-13400. This is because the Core i5-14400 retains the same core configuration and only has a minor 100MHz clock speed increase. As a result, it may not offer much upward movement in performance. This is concerning for potential Intel processor buyers, as the 13400 was widely regarded as a pivotal mid-range chip for Raptor Lake, offering excellent value in the mid-range CPU space.
The disappointing performance of the 14400 raises questions about its price tag and its potential impact on the mid-range market. While the 13400 remains a good CPU, the lack of a more substantial performance boost with the 14400 feels like a missed opportunity for Intel.
