Intel’s new Core i9-14900KF processor has made headlines by breaking the world record for overclocking. The flagship Raptor Lake Refresh processor achieved an impressive clock speed of 9.04GHz, surpassing the previous record.
The overclocking feat was accomplished by a team of overclockers from Asus, including renowned overclocker SkatterBencher. The Core i9-14900KF, which is essentially the same as the 14900K but without integrated graphics, was pushed to its limits using liquid helium for cooling. The team used an Asus ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore motherboard and a 1200W Enermax power supply.
While the increase in clock speed may seem modest, it is a significant achievement in the overclocking community. SkatterBencher emphasized that it took a week of painstaking efforts to surpass the previous record set by the 13900KF.
Interestingly, the Asus team managed to briefly reach a clock speed of 9.1GHz with the 14900KF, but the system was not stable enough to validate the overclock. However, considering that this is an initial attempt, it is highly likely that the Raptor Lake Refresh flagship will achieve a stable 9.1GHz overclock in the future.
In fact, there is a possibility of even higher clock speeds, as the 13900K initially achieved an 8.8GHz overclock before surpassing 9GHz. It remains to be seen what further records the Raptor Lake Refresh processors can achieve.
While the Core i9-14900K is impressive in terms of clock speeds, it may not be the best choice for the average PC owner, especially gamers. However, its sibling, the 14700K, has received positive reviews and currently holds the top spot in the best processors list.
In conclusion, Intel’s Core i9-14900KF has made waves in the CPU overclocking community by breaking the world record for clock speed. This feat showcases Intel’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of processor performance.
