New M3 iMac Release Possibly Delayed Until 2024, According to Apple Leaker Ming-Chi Kuo
In a surprising turn of events, it appears that the highly anticipated M3 iMac may not be hitting the market this year as previously rumored. Renowned Apple hardware leaker, Ming-Chi Kuo, recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to reveal that the new M3 refresh of Apple’s popular 24-inch iMac won’t be arriving until 2024. This contradicts Kuo’s earlier leak, which accurately predicted the release of new Mac Pro and Mac mini models this year but was mistaken about Apple’s iMac plans for 2023.
Kuo’s updated prediction was further supported by a separate report claiming that Apple would introduce an M2 iMac refresh this year, potentially indicating that Apple chose to delay the M3 iMac models. Additionally, there have been reports of a delay in the release of the M3 MacBook Air due to chip manufacturing issues with TSMC. This delay has led to the prioritization of the A17 chip for the iPhone 15 Pro over the M3 chips.
Although the news of a possible 2024 release for the M3 iMac is disappointing, there is some positive news for Apple enthusiasts. Kuo’s leak also confirms the existence of a larger iMac with a 32-inch mini-LED display, which many have been eagerly anticipating. The downside is that this bigger iMac is not expected to arrive until 2025, leaving fans with the current 24-inch M1 iMac.
The delay in the release of the larger iMac could be attributed to chip shortages or Apple’s potential issues with display manufacturing for the new mini-LED screen. There is also no mention of a potential M3 iMac Pro, but Kuo describes the 32-inch iMac as a “higher-end” model, suggesting that it might come equipped with an M3 Pro or M3 Max chip.
Regardless of the delays, even a standard 24-inch iMac powered by the M3 chip has the potential to be one of the best Macs ever made. The upcoming processor is expected to deliver a significant performance leap compared to its predecessor, the M2.
