Google’s much-anticipated series of top-secret artificial intelligence (AI) events that were supposed to showcase the company’s Gemini generative AI tool has been delayed, The Information reports. The events were set to be a significant highlight of the year, but have now been postponed to January 2024 due to concerns that Gemini was not reliably handling non-English queries.

This comes as a blow to Google’s efforts to keep pace with its competitors in the AI space, particularly with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The highly-anticipated Gemini event was expected to be held in California, New York, and Washington as Google aimed to stay competitive in the AI market.

Notably, Google had not heavily promoted the events, perhaps in anticipation of potential issues with Gemini. This delay marks the second time Google has reportedly had to push back the launch of Gemini, indicating the challenges the company faces in catching up with OpenAI.

The delay suggests that Google is struggling to match the pace of its rivals, especially following reports of a major breakthrough by OpenAI with its generative AI technology which puts added pressure on Google to respond.

The company is expected to integrate Gemini’s AI capabilities into its various products, including Search, Google Assistant, and Google Docs. However, users should anticipate delays in these updates until early next year.
