Nvidia Reportedly Preparing RTX 4070 Super Graphics Card Alongside Existing Models

In an interesting development in the world of graphics cards, Nvidia is said to be working on an RTX 4070 Super to accompany its current lineup of models at this tier. According to hardware leaker MEGAsizeGPU on X (formerly Twitter), there could be not just one, but two new versions of the RTX 4070 in the future.

The first rumored product is believed to be a minor refresh of the existing RTX 4070, using GDDR6 video RAM instead of the newer GDDR6X modules. This change would be the only difference between the two models.

The second rumored model, however, is the one that has caught the attention of many. Dubbed the RTX 4070 Super, this graphics card would feature the AD103 chip, which is currently used in the higher-tier RTX 4080. The current RTX 4070 models, on the other hand, utilize the AD104 chip. The AD103 chip would allow Nvidia to equip the RTX 4070 Super with a 256-bit memory bus and an increased VRAM configuration of 16GB, up from the current 12GB.

These spec changes could potentially make the RTX 4070 Super a more powerful graphics card, solidifying its position as the best option from Nvidia. Some rumors even suggest that there may be an RTX 4070 Ti Super on the horizon. However, there are doubts about the need for such a model, as it may complicate Nvidia’s branding. It would make more sense to simply call the refreshed model the RTX 4070 Super and emphasize the 16GB VRAM.

It is important to note that while the RTX 4070 Super may use the same AD103 chip as the RTX 4080, it will not be as powerful as its higher-tier counterpart. Nvidia would make adjustments to ensure that the RTX 4080 remains the superior option.

There have been reports that sales of the RTX 4080 have been underwhelming, with buyers opting for the RTX 4070 Ti instead. The introduction of an even better RTX 4070 variant, such as the rumored Super model, could further diminish the demand for the RTX 4080.

It is still uncertain whether the RTX 4070 Super will feature increased CUDA cores, as the specifics of the model remain unclear. There is a possibility that it may even be inferior to the RTX 4070 Ti in certain aspects.

Speculations aside, it is clear that Nvidia intends to release new iterations of the RTX 4070 next year. The introduction of a vanilla RTX 4070 with GDDR6 video RAM could also provide Nvidia with an opportunity to offer a more affordable option for consumers.

While all of this information is subject to speculation, it will be interesting to see how Nvidia navigates the release of these new graphics cards and how they perform in the market.
