New Microsoft Store Update Improves Launch Time
The Microsoft Store has received an update that significantly improves its launch time. Version 22309 of the store has been rolled out, and users should see a noticeable difference in how quickly it opens. However, while this update is a welcome improvement, it may not be enough to attract more users to the store.
Independent developer Daniel (@kid_jenius on X/Twitter) discovered the change and reported that the launch time has been reduced from seven seconds to just two seconds. Although individual results may vary, it appears that the app is indeed faster than before.
Daniel shared his findings on Twitter, stating, “New Microsoft Store update just dropped, v22309. Available for all users. On my home PC, older versions launched in 7s. Now it launches in 2s🔥Our work isn’t done here yet, but I hope you like this improvement 🙂 And please keep the feedback coming. The team is listening 💪🏽” (October 18, 2023)
If you want to update your Microsoft Store to version 22309, ironically, you’ll have to use the Microsoft Store itself. Once the store loads, click on the library icon in the lower left corner, select the “get updates” option, and choose the available updates. If you don’t see an update option, your device may have already installed it automatically.
Now, you might be wondering why this update matters or why you should care. It’s a valid question. The Microsoft Store has long been criticized for being slow, clunky, and generally frustrating. Many users, including myself, have preferred to download apps and software directly from the internet rather than using the Microsoft Store.
Microsoft has struggled to entice users to embrace its store, and while this update is a step in the right direction, most Windows users still prefer to download apps from the official websites. At this point, it’s unlikely that Microsoft can do much to change our minds unless they completely overhaul and redesign the store, which doesn’t seem likely in the near future.
In conclusion, the latest Microsoft Store update brings a significant improvement in launch time, but it may not be enough to win over users who are already accustomed to alternative methods of app acquisition. Microsoft’s efforts to enhance the experience are appreciated, but it might be too little, too late for many users.
