Japanese company Third Wave is set to launch a new service called Raytrek Cloud, which offers a ‘GPU cloud’ for running generative AI workloads on personal computers. This service allows users to tap into the power of AI without needing to invest in high-end PCs or GPUs. Instead, Third Wave leases the necessary compute resources indirectly. The company announced the GPU cloud at the Dospara Plus Synapse 2023 event and also revealed its focus on AI servers and workstations, as well as the development and distribution of related hardware.
As part of its recent reorganization, Third Wave introduced five new products, including the X4630 workstation, equipped with a 4th-Gen Xeon Scalable processor and NVIDIA’s RTX6000 Ada GPU. This aligns with the company’s branding strategy, with the GALLERIA brand catering to consumers and gamers, and Raytrek focusing on enterprise-centric hardware.
The launch of Raytrek Cloud is driven by Third Wave’s recognition of the increasing amount of data becoming available in the coming years. With data production now 60 times higher than ten years ago, the company expects a surge in demand for AI systems. Akiya Ida, Director, Senior Executive Officer, and VP of Third Wave, emphasized the power consumption issues associated with data centers and stated that future AI systems will need to run both on-premises and off the cloud.
Raytrek Cloud offers businesses access to a remote workstation through a desktop as a service (DaaS) model. This allows tasks such as CAD or building information modeling (BIM) to be carried out remotely. Additionally, the GPU service can be used for high-performance computing tasks, including generative AI and simulations.
Third Wave aims to position itself as the most cost-effective AI cloud service provider, offering a monthly fee that is 50-66% lower than major cloud companies. The service is also available on a pay-as-you-go basis, allowing users to pay hourly or in small increments.
In summary, Third Wave’s Raytrek Cloud offers a GPU cloud service for running various AI workloads on personal computers. With a focus on AI servers and workstations, the company aims to provide affordable and flexible solutions for businesses.
