TP-Link’s Tapo RV30 Plus is the latest addition to its smart home range and serves as the flagship model for their robot vacuum cleaner lineup. This versatile device is capable of vacuuming, mopping, and even emptying its own dustbin into a large 4L replaceable dustbag. The ability to utilize such a spacious dustbag reduces the frequency at which it needs to be replaced, potentially saving users money in the long term.
Equipped with up to 4,200Pa of suction power, the Tapo RV30 Plus performs admirably in cleaning hard floors. While the default Standard suction mode is sufficient for relatively clean surfaces, using the Turbo mode yields the best results. Even when operating in Max mode, the RV30 Plus doesn’t drain much of its three-hour battery life.
However, one aspect to be mindful of is the tendency for the rotating side brush to scatter hair and microscopic dust particles rather than directing them towards the bar brush beneath the machine.
Mopping capabilities, on the other hand, are more basic. Despite offering three different water levels when the mop plate is attached, even the highest setting, Max, falls short when it comes to tackling stubborn dirt and stains. Other robot vacuum cleaners such as the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni and Deebot X1 Turbo provide a more effective agitation for mopping.
Where the Tapo RV30 Plus truly shines is in its comprehensive companion app. From creating customized cleaning routines to setting no-mop zones, the Tapo app offers excellent control over the robovac’s functions. This allows users to define specific areas in their homes where mopping is not required, and the RV30 Plus will avoid those zones while vacuuming. If needed, the mop plate can be removed, and the machine can be sent back for spot cleaning. Additionally, the RV30 Plus can vacuum a space up to three times, ensuring a thorough clean, provided there are no stubborn stains.
In terms of size, the RV30 Plus shares a similar circular design to most other robot vacuums. However, in comparison to its auto-empty docking station, the machine appears larger, despite the docking station being relatively compact considering it accommodates a 4L dustbag. Therefore, users will need a sufficient amount of floor space to store the unit in its entirety.
For those looking to purchase the Tapo RV30 Plus, taking advantage of major sale events can provide excellent value for money. While the flagship model is not considered cheap, it is more affordable compared to premium brands like iRobot’s Roombas. Currently, the RV30 Plus is available for purchase in select markets, including the UK and Australia, but has yet to be released in the US. The full price for the RV30 Plus is £599.99 / AU$999 respectively, but discounts can be found on Amazon UK and Amazon AU during significant sales.
Although the RV30 Plus is listed on Tapo’s US website, it is not currently available for purchase in America. As an alternative, TP-Link offers the Tapo RV10 Plus, which is priced at $399.99 on Amazon US. However, the RV10 Plus lacks the newer lidar navigation technology and does not possess the same level of suction power as its flagship counterpart.
In Australia, consumers also have the option to purchase the Tapo RV30 without the auto-empty dock for AU$799 through Amazon AU.
Considering its capabilities in vacuuming, mopping, and self-emptying, the RV30 Plus offers good value for money. What differentiates it from other models is its use of a relatively large dustbag in the auto-empty dock, reducing the frequency of replacements. Replacement bags are available on Amazon for £17.99 / AU$49 for a pack of three. Additionally, replacement kits for the bar brush, side brush, and filters can also be found on Amazon in respective countries.
The Tapo RV30 Plus boasts impressive specifications, including its 4,200Pa suction power, 350ml dustbin, 4L dustbag, 300ml water tank, four suction levels, three water levels, and a noise level of 60dB in standard mode. It utilizes LiDAR and Gyro mapping for efficient navigation, while obstacle avoidance is accomplished through LiDAR technology. The RV30 Plus is powered by a 5,000mAh battery, providing up to three hours of runtime. Its dimensions are 342.6 × 342.2 × 95 mm for the robot and 227 × 191.4 × 381.3 mm for the auto-empty dock.
In terms of design and features, the RV30 Plus maintains the classic circular shape seen in many robot vacuums. The lidar navigation system is housed in a dome on top, and the overall color scheme is white with a black front bumper. The machine includes three buttons on the front for start/stop, spot cleaning, and docking. Its appearance is indicative of a typical robot vacuum, with the Tapo branding being the only notable distinguishing factor.
One surprising aspect of the RV30 Plus is the noticeable size difference between the vacuum and its auto-empty docking station. Despite its 34.1cm diameter, the vacuum is noticeably wider than the compact 19.1cm-wide docking station, which still manages to accommodate a 4L dustbag.
Underneath the RV30 Plus, users will find a bar brush that requires regular maintenance, especially for households with pets or individuals with long hair. Additionally, the machine only features a single side brush, placed ahead of the bar brush. While the bot can effectively clean room edges, it may miss corners, just like other robovacs.
The RV30 Plus features a 2-in-1 dustbin and water tank, both accessible by picking up the robot. It offers a standard 350ml dustbin and a 300ml water tank, capable of mopping an area of up to 200 square meters. Recharging sensors are located on the rear of the compartment, preventing the RV30 Plus from charging while the tank is removed for emptying and drying.
The machine includes various voice prompts to indicate its status and supports voice commands through Alexa and Google Assistant. However, it does not recognize commands for specific cleaning routines, only performing a default full home vacuum.
With 4,200 pascals of suction power and a 5,000mAh battery pack, the Tapo RV30 Plus provides excellent cleaning performance at its price point. Its utilization of a large dustbag in the auto-empty dock, along with its range of features, makes it a standout choice for users looking for a comprehensive robot vacuum cleaner.
