Google Maps is getting a major upgrade with new AI-powered features that are set to improve the overall user experience. The most exciting addition is Immersive View for Routes, which combines Street View, aerial imagery, and real-time information to give users a photo-realistic preview of their planned route. This feature will be rolling out in 15 cities this week, including Amsterdam, London, New York, and Tokyo.

In addition to Immersive View, Google’s machine learning algorithms are also enhancing other aspects of Google Maps. The Search function will now provide photo-first results, using AI-powered analysis of billions of photos shared by Maps users. This update will be available in the US, UK, France, Germany, and Japan. Furthermore, Maps search results will now display themed suggestions for broader searches like “art exhibitions” or “anime,” making it easier for users to find relevant information.

Another exciting feature in Google Maps is the AR-powered ‘Lens in Maps.’ This built-in Google Lens feature can label objects and landmarks by using the phone’s camera. Now available in over 50 new cities, this feature allows users to easily navigate and identify points of interest.

For drivers, Google Maps will soon introduce improved navigation capabilities. Users can expect improved lane details and more realistic building structures to enhance their driving experience. Additionally, HOV lanes will be displayed in the US, while 20 new European countries will receive AI-powered speed limit information.

Lastly, electric vehicle (EV) owners will benefit from more helpful information about charging stations. Google Maps will now display whether a charger is compatible with your car and provide details on charging speed. Additionally, users will be able to see when the charger was last used, helping them find functional charging stations more efficiently.

These updates demonstrate Google’s commitment to continually enhance its services through AI-powered features. Google Maps is set to become even more useful and user-friendly for both pedestrians and drivers alike.
