Windows 11 2023 Update introduces exciting changes and features

On October 31, alongside Halloween festivities, Microsoft released the highly anticipated Windows 11 2023 Update. This update brings significant improvements, making it one of the most compelling updates to Windows 11 yet.

Many of these features were already known to us through the optional September 2023 Update (23H2). This update introduced the widely-publicized Windows Copilot AI tool, updates to Microsoft Paint including the Cocreator generative AI bot, an enhanced Snipping Tool app, a revamped Photos app, RGB lighting support for gamers, a flashy new File Explorer, and several other tweaks and adjustments. Another notable change is the removal of the integration of Chat into Microsoft Teams.

Understandably, the inclusion of Chat within the free version of Microsoft Teams has been met with enthusiasm. As a default app pinned to the taskbar, Microsoft Teams now offers a more comprehensive communication experience, allowing for more ways to connect and create community groups. This move makes sense considering the popularity and usage of Teams, especially during the pandemic when remote work became prevalent.

Previous versions of the Microsoft Teams app were also included as part of Windows 11 and pinned to the taskbar. However, users were unable to easily remove it. Fortunately, with the Windows 11 2023 Update, users now have the option to unpin and remove the app if they don’t use it.

Chat, which was a separate app similar to FaceTime, didn’t see significant usage among users. It was only available on the personal consumer version of Windows 11, posing limitations for those who wanted to use it in collaboration with or within Teams in a work or enterprise setting.

In addition to these changes, the Windows 11 2023 Update also brings design alterations to the user interface. System component settings will now be grouped under the label “System” in the Settings app. This includes Microsoft Store, Game Bar, Phone Link, and Tips apps. The Verge speculates that Microsoft might allow users to remove these system components in a future Windows 11 update.

This update is likely the last major one for Windows 11, as rumors circulate about the upcoming release of Windows 12. Windows enthusiasts can look forward to exciting times ahead.
