Apple’s M3 Ultra chip could be a game-changer for Mac users, according to a report by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. In his recent Power On newsletter, Gurman suggested that the upcoming chip could provide an “outrageous” level of power, surpassing anything Apple has produced in the past and potentially outperforming PC rivals.

This new chip would represent a significant upgrade from previous Apple chips, with four tiers including the entry-level model, Pro, Max, and the Ultra variants. The M3 Ultra is expected to double the number of CPU and GPU cores compared to the Max chip, which currently features 16 CPU cores and 40 graphics cores.

If the trends continue, the M3 Ultra could boast 32 CPU cores and 80 GPU cores, making it the most powerful Mac chip to date and surpassing the M2 Ultra’s 24 CPU cores and 76 GPU cores. This substantial performance increase could significantly benefit users engaging in CPU-intensive tasks such as photo and video editing, code compiling, and mathematical calculations.

However, this level of power comes with a price, as the M2 Ultra is currently only available in Apple’s most expensive Macs, such as the Mac Studio and the Mac Pro. The M3 Ultra is expected to debut next year, and while the specific release date is unknown, it could enter testing in the coming months, providing a glimpse of its performance capabilities.
