Apple announces powerful updates for Final Cut Pro on both Mac and iPad, with a range of new features that aim to streamline editing, enhance the timeline, add new in-app content, and more.

For Mac users, Apple’s update focuses on simplifying complex edits and turbocharging export speeds. Final Cut Pro will now automatically scroll the timeline to keep up with the current playhead position while a video is playing, and allows you to zoom the timeline in or out during playback to suit your needs.

Clips can now be assigned colors and roles for better differentiation, and new organization tools will make it easier to clean up your timeline and combine groups of connected clips into a more coherent single storyline. Faster exporting will be enabled by the latest Mac chips, and Final Cut Pro will now offer better object tracking for things like faces found in your clips.

The iPad version of Final Cut Pro will also see upgrades, including the ability to record audio directly onto the timeline as it plays, manual camera stabilization, new color-grading presets, titles, and generators, as well as the introduction of connected clips and organizational tools. Users will be able to export their work to Final Cut Pro for Mac to access advanced features.

Apple has not provided an exact release date for this update, but it is expected to be available later in the month and will be free for existing Final Cut Pro users.
