Microsoft Delays Upgrade to Video Casting Feature in Windows 11 due to Reported Bugs

Microsoft has decided to hold off on an upcoming upgrade to the video casting feature in their latest operating system, Windows 11, due to reported bugs. The new feature was initially available to members of Microsoft’s Windows Insider Program, known as Windows Insiders, who have the opportunity to test upcoming additions to the operating system. However, it has now been removed from the latest Windows 11 preview.

Video casting features are familiar to many users, whether through devices like Chromecast or older methods like connecting a computer to a TV using HDMI cables. This functionality allows users to select and control media on their computer or device and view it on their TV screens. It can enhance the viewing experience or facilitate content sharing with others.

The removal of the video casting feature was discovered in the Windows 11 Preview Build 22635.2486 update, released on October 19. This update was made available through the Windows Insider Program’s Beta Channel, one of the four preview channels that Microsoft utilizes for releasing previews. Users who choose to upgrade to this preview build will find that the casting experience is no longer available, as it is currently being tested by Microsoft.

The casting feature was originally introduced in Build 22631.2129 in August of this year. However, Microsoft has disabled it temporarily to address bugs and make necessary improvements. Windows Central reports that Microsoft plans to re-enable the feature in a future release in the Beta Channel.

Aside from the video casting update, the latest preview build of Windows 11 does not introduce any significant new features. Some notable changes include the Xbox Game Bar now appearing as ‘Game Bar’ in the Start menu, and system components being labeled under ‘System’ in the Start menu, making them easier to identify. The Game Bar can also be found under Settings > System > Apps > Installed apps, and it will receive updates via the Microsoft Store.

Minor fixes in the update address crash-related issues with the Start menu and resolve taskbar glitches that were affecting the search function.

Windows Central notes that Microsoft’s decision to delay the video casting upgrade is for a valid reason, even though it temporarily limits Windows 11’s functionality. To compete with the popular and long-standing Chromecast feature in Google Chrome and Google devices, Microsoft needs to ensure that their casting feature is seamless and functions well. Proving its worth will be crucial for users to adopt Microsoft’s casting feature in the same way as Chromecast.

In conclusion, Microsoft has postponed an upcoming upgrade to the video casting feature in Windows 11 due to reported bugs. The company aims to address these issues and improve the functionality before reintroducing the feature in a future release. This decision reflects Microsoft’s commitment to providing a reliable and competitive casting experience for Windows 11 users.
