Bengaluru, India – IPL chairman Arun Dhumal has expressed confidence in the league’s potential to reach a media rights value of USD 50 billion over the next two decades. This projection comes as the current media rights value stands at USD 6.2 billion for a five-year period starting from 2022, making IPL the second-most high-valued league after the National Football League (NFL).
Dhumal shared his optimistic outlook at the RCB Innovation Lab’s Leaders Meet India, emphasizing the importance of innovation and fan engagement in driving the league’s growth. As a former BCCI treasurer, he also highlighted the potential financial rewards from the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The exponential growth of IPL’s media rights value over the last decade and a half reflects its status as the most-watched cricket league in the world. Dhumal praised IPL as a powerful “Make in India” brand that effectively showcases the diverse culture and heritage of the country to a global audience.
The chairman’s remarks shed light on the increasing stature of IPL in the global sporting landscape, signifying potential growth opportunities and promising future developments for the immensely popular cricket league.
