Elon Musk’s xAI Prepares to Launch First AI Model, Says Musk

Elon Musk, the founder of xAI, has announced that the company is getting ready to release its first AI model. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk revealed that the model will be available to a “select group” on Saturday. According to Musk, the technology is currently the best in its field. However, the identities of the members in the “select group” have not been disclosed.

The forthcoming release marks a significant milestone for Musk’s newly established AI lab. Launched in July, after much anticipation and speculation, the lab is determined to uncover the “true nature of the universe.” Musk clarified that the ultimate goal of xAI is to develop a “good AGI” that possesses a high level of curiosity and a deep desire for truth. The company seeks to tackle scientific questions and gain a deeper understanding of reality.

Musk has voiced his concerns about OpenAI, a company he co-founded but later separated from. In particular, he has criticized OpenAI’s AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT, claiming that its underlying model is biased and excessively “woke.” As a response, Musk has previously mentioned working on a more inquisitive alternative called “TruthGPT.”

The release of xAI’s AI model is expected to directly compete with other AI models, including OpenAI’s GPT, Google’s PaLM 2, and Meta’s Llama. Musk has been actively hiring for a large-scale AI project based on language models. Notably, Manuel Kroiss and Igor Babuschkin, former members of Google’s AI research unit DeepMind, have joined Musk’s team.

As of now, representatives for Musk have not provided a comment in response to this announcement.
