Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence startup company, xAI, is set to launch its highly anticipated AI model on November 4. Musk, who made the announcement on the platform formerly known as Twitter, stated that the tech will be released to a select group of people and claimed that it is currently the best available AI model.
xAI, founded by a team of former engineers from Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI, made its debut in July. Musk discussed his vision for the company during a 90-minute-long Twitter Spaces chat, where he emphasized the goal of creating a good artificial general intelligence (AGI) that aims to understand the universe. He highlighted the need for an alternative to existing AI technologies from companies like Microsoft and Google.
However, it is important to note that AGI is more of an idea rather than a tangible piece of technology. While xAI’s launch on November 4 may not be the super-smart model that can hold conversations like in a sci-fi movie, it could potentially be a chatbot, similar to ChatGPT. Considering the advancements made by ChatGPT over the past year, it remains to be seen if xAI’s ChatX can compete with established chatbot models.
Musk has been critical of the development of generative AI models and has expressed a desire to provide a focus on the “truth”. However, his definition of truth has been questioned, especially considering Twitter’s compliance with censorship requests from governments. Nevertheless, the intentions of xAI will soon be revealed.
