Fitbit Responds to User Criticisms with Promised App Updates

Fitbit fans expressed frustration with the recent redesign of the official Fitbit app, which made it inconsistent and more difficult to use. However, the company has acknowledged the backlash and announced plans to address some of the complaints in a forthcoming app update.

In a blog post titled ‘Your Feedback Matters’, Fitbit outlined five improvements that it is working on. One of the main changes is the return of a popular feature called ‘Steps streaks’, which is similar to Apple Watch’s Rings. Fitbit has seen the demand for this feature and will be reinstating it on iOS, as well as launching it for the first time on Android. Users will not lose progress towards their streaks as previous steps will still count. Additionally, Fitbit will add celebration animations to mark the achievement of daily step goals.

Another major criticism of the app redesign was its complexity. To address this, Fitbit plans to make the Today screen easier to read by reducing spacing and optimizing the layout. The company also aims to display the battery percentage of the user’s watch or tracker on the Today tab, eliminating the need to navigate to other sections or check the device itself.

Furthermore, Fitbit is introducing more customization options for the Today tab in the latest version of the app. Users can now choose their own metrics instead of being limited to preset options.

While these improvements are either already available or in the pipeline, Fitbit has also promised additional updates in the future, including the highly anticipated dark mode.

Fitbit’s response to user criticisms demonstrates its commitment to addressing user concerns and improving the app experience. By rectifying certain issues, Fitbit hopes to retain its user base and compete with other fitness tracker brands like Garmin and Apple.

However, the integration of Google’s Material You design language poses ongoing usability challenges for long-time Fitbit users. Despite this, Fitbit has exciting AI-powered features planned for next year, including a chatbot powered by generative AI that will analyze workout metrics and offer insights.

Fitbit users can look forward to a more user-friendly and feature-rich app experience in the near future.
