A potential cyclonic storm is predicted to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal around December 3, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). However, the department did not provide any information regarding the potential impact on Odisha. IMD scientist Umashankar Dash stated that the path and impact of the cyclone could only be assessed after the formation of a depression in the sea on Friday. As of now, there are no warnings for the Odisha coast or fishermen for the next four days.

An IMD bulletin issued a special warning regarding a well-marked low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the south Andaman Sea, which is expected to intensify into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours. The system is anticipated to gradually become a cyclonic storm over the southwest Bay of Bengal by December 3, and then move towards the north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts by the early morning of December 4.

The IMD cautioned that under the influence of the anticipated system, squally wind speeds reaching up to 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph are expected over the Southwest Bay of Bengal from December 1 morning, and 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph from December 2 morning. The department emphasized that further updates and warnings regarding the potential cyclonic storm will be provided as the situation develops.
