Instagram, owned by Meta, is testing a new feature that will only allow posts from paid verified users, taking inspiration from Elon Musk’s platform, X. Earlier this year, reports emerged about Meta testing a subscription service that would enable Facebook and Instagram users to pay for a verified account. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, stated that this feature is being explored as a way for people, businesses, and creators to gain more control and increase their visibility.
According to The Verge, the new feature, called Meta Verified, will appear as an option under “Following” and “Favorites” when users tap the Instagram logo at the top of the app. By toggling this option, users can ensure that only posts from verified accounts show up in their feed.
The Meta Verified program comes at a cost of $11.99 on the web or $14.99 within the app. It offers users a new opportunity to enhance their presence in the Instagram feed. Mosseri has encouraged users to provide feedback on their interest in using this new feed for verified users.
In a separate development, Meta is reportedly planning to introduce a $14 fee for accessing an ad-free version of Instagram or Facebook in Europe. Users will have the choice to either pay the fee or continue seeing personalized ads. If users in Europe wish to access both platforms, they can opt for the combo package priced at $17 per month. It is important to note that Meta will still offer free versions of the apps with ads in the European Union.
By introducing these new features and paid options, Meta aims to provide users with more control over their social media experience while generating additional revenue streams.
