Apple is rumored to be launching a new iMac later this month, according to the latest reports. Speculation about the exact model of Mac that will be released has been varied, with some suggesting that multiple Macs could be unveiled. However, renowned Apple leaker Mark Gurman believes that a new 24-inch iMac is on its way. In his recent newsletter for Bloomberg, Gurman reaffirms that the iMac could be revealed on October 30 or 31, just before Apple’s earnings announcement on November 2.
While Gurman is not completely certain about the exact product that will be launched, he is confident that a “Mac-centered product launch” will occur at the end of October. There has been no mention of the chip that will power the rumored iMac, but it is speculated that it will stick with the M2 rather than featuring the newer M3 silicon. Another recent rumor suggests that the 24-inch iMac will run on M2 chips and offer only a modest upgrade.
Gurman also leaves room for the possibility of MacBook Pro refreshes arriving this month, noting that Apple is reportedly working on new 14-inch and 16-inch models. However, the leaker acknowledges that it would be unusual to have another round of revamping within the same year, although not entirely impossible.
The uncertainty surrounding the rumored Mac launch has led to various conflicting reports. While an iMac refresh has been mentioned frequently, Ming-Chi Kuo, another respected Apple leaker, recently claimed that the 24-inch iMac won’t debut until 2024. As the rumors continue to circulate, Gurman’s belief in the imminent arrival of the iMac is supported by the low stock of the current iMac in Apple retail stores and delays in online orders.
Considering the length of time since the last iMac model was introduced in April 2021, it seems likely that a new iMac is due. Regardless of the exact details, an event announcement from Apple should be expected soon, as the end of October approaches.
