Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala [India], October 29 (ANI) – Two explosions occurred at a prayer hall in Kochi’s Kalamassery, resulting in one death, and multiple injuries. The state’s DGP, Shaik Darvesh Saheb, confirmed the use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and stated that a thorough investigation is underway.
According to the DGP, 36 injured individuals are currently being treated in various hospitals in the district. The incident took place at the Zamra International Convention and Exhibition Centre during a regional meeting. Senior officers, along with the additional DGP, are present at the site, and the DGP himself will be arriving shortly.
Emphasizing the seriousness of the situation, the DGP announced the formation of a special team to investigate the incident. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and National Security Guard (NSG) to send teams to Kerala and initiate an investigation.
Home Minister Shah also spoke with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to assess the situation. CM Vijayan expressed his condolences for the loss of life, deeming the incident as highly unfortunate.
Health Minister Veena George has instructed the Health Department and Medical Education Department directors to provide the best possible treatment to those injured in the blast.
Kalamassery CI Vibin Das reported that the first explosion occurred around 9 am. The incident took place on the final day of a three-day meeting attended by over 2,000 individuals.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities seek to identify the perpetrators and take appropriate actions.
