Indian badminton star Lakshya Sen, who won gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, has appealed to the Indian government to help resolve his visa issues so that he’s able to participate in upcoming competitions in Japan and China. The world no 17 shuttler expressed his concerns about the delay in obtaining his Japanese visa and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Anurag Thakur, and Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar to assist in resolving the matter.

He took to social media to share his plea, stating that he had applied for a Japan visa on October 10 and was still waiting for it. He also mentioned that he needed to apply for a China visa as well, and requested urgent assistance for himself, his coach, and physio. Lakshya’s message comes as he is set to compete in the Japan Masters from November 14 to 19, followed by the China Masters from November 21 to 26.

Lakshya Sen has been a standout talent in Indian badminton, being part of the history-making Indian men’s team at the Asian Games. However, his last participation was at the French Open 2023, where he faced defeat in the men’s singles event. Despite his efforts, he lost to Arnaud Merkle of France, ranked 44th, in a match that lasted for 54 minutes.

As the badminton star awaits resolution to his visa issues, his hope is to be able to compete in these upcoming prestigious events.
