Google Maps users express frustration over the new color design changes
Google Maps’ new color design has left regular users feeling frustrated as there has been a change in colors to denote different elements. This change was first spotted back in September, but now it’s widely rolling out to users of Google’s navigation app.
The new design showcases gray roads similar to Apple, rather than white or yellow roads as before, and forests are a darker green. Additionally, the shade of blue used for water is lighter, and the active route is a much darker blue, with alternate routes shown in lighter blue.
As a result, many users are expressing dissatisfaction with the changes. Some user feedback gathered from Reddit, Twitter and other online forums suggests that the new colors lack clarity and make it trickier to see what’s what at a glance, particularly when driving. There are also complaints that the new alternate routes being blue, as well as the main route, makes it difficult to tell those routes apart on a phone.
Despite a limited poll conducted by Android Authority showing that 44% of respondents don’t like the new colors compared to 28% who do, Google may need to revisit the changes, particularly surrounding the alternate routes. While not everyone is unhappy with the changes, the majority seem to be dissatisfied based on the feedback received.
