Microsoft has revealed that it is integrating ChatGPT with Microsoft Excel, a move that will bring AI-powered tools to spreadsheets in the workplace. This new integration allows users to create a table using data fed into or requested by Bing Chat AI, and then open and edit the table within the same window using the Excel web app.
The real-time creation of tables was tested by Windows Latest and was found to be seamless and versatile. The tool is still in testing and may expand to work with other Office 365 apps in the future.
In addition to this integration, there are plans for closer ties between ChatGPT and other Microsoft 365 tools, such as Word and Powerpoint. Users will have the option to connect with Google Workspace services as well, allowing ChatGPT to access information and add context to conversations.
While there are no concrete details on the wider availability of these features, Microsoft has recently announced the general availability of Microsoft 365 Copilot, although it comes with an additional cost.
As these features continue to develop, it will be interesting to see how they impact the workplace and how users will be able to leverage AI tools in their daily tasks.
