OnePlus Launches its First Foldable Smartphone, the OnePlus Open, in India

The long-awaited OnePlus Open, the first foldable smartphone from OnePlus, has finally been released in India. After weeks of anticipation and rumors, the device is now available for purchase. This smartphone is the global version of the Oppo Find N3 foldable phone, which was launched in China last week.

The OnePlus Open is the company’s most premium offering in India and is packed with innovative features. It is set to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, which has dominated the foldables market since its initial release.

Priced at ₹1,39,999, the OnePlus Open offers great value for money. It will be available in two color options – Voyager Black with faux leather and Emerald Dusk with a matte-textured glass finish. Interested customers can pre-order the device starting from October 27. It will be sold through various channels, including Amazon India, OnePlus Online Store, OnePlus retail stores, Reliance Digital, and authorized retail partners nationwide.

In terms of specifications, the OnePlus Open boasts a large 7.82-inch 2K LTPO AMOLED display with a 1-120Hz refresh rate, Ultra-Thin Glass protection, and 1440 Hz PWM dimming. Additionally, it features a 6.31-inch 2K LTPO cover display with a 10-120Hz refresh rate and ceramic guard protection. Both screens offer a peak brightness of 2800 nits.

OnePlus has used aerospace-grade materials for the hinge, ensuring exceptional durability. The company claims that the OnePlus Open has been tested to withstand over 1 million folds. It runs on Android 13 out of the box, with the company’s OxygenOS 3.2 user interface layered on top. The device will receive four years of Android updates and five years of security updates.

Powering the OnePlus Open is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 internal storage. In terms of cameras, it sports a triple camera setup on the rear, including a 48MP Sony LYT-T808 primary sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 48MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 64MP telephoto lens with 6X optical zoom and up to 120X digital zoom. The device also comes with Hasselblad support, a recent trend in OnePlus flagships.

For selfies, the OnePlus Open features a 32MP camera on the cover screen and a 20MP camera on the inner display. It is equipped with a 4,805mAh battery that supports 67W fast charging, providing a full charge in just 42 minutes.

Other notable features include an Alert Slider, which allows easy management of notifications, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. These features are similar to the ones found on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.

The OnePlus Open offers a compelling alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, especially considering its lower price starting at ₹1,39,999. With its impressive specifications and competitive pricing, the OnePlus Open aims to capture a significant market share in India’s foldables segment.
