In the latest international news, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has responded to a selfie shared by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. PM Modi stated that it is always a delight to meet friends, referencing the image shared by Meloni on social media.
The selfie was taken during the ongoing 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) in Dubai, providing a glimpse into the meeting between the two leaders. Italian PM Meloni captioned the post as “Good friends at COP28. #Melodi” on her Instagram account.
During their meeting at COP28, PM Modi discussed collaborative efforts between India and Italy for a sustainable and prosperous future. Additionally, PM Modi also met with several other world leaders during the summit, including UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Swedish PM Ulf Kristersson, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and others.
PM Modi used the opportunity to address climate change’s impact on the Global South, emphasizing the importance of climate finance and technology to fulfill the region’s aspirations. This is the third appearance by PM Modi at the World Climate Action Summit, following previous visits to Paris in 2015 and Glasgow in 2021.
This is not the first meeting between the two leaders, as PM Modi and Italian PM Meloni previously met at the G20 Summit in New Delhi. The leaders further discussed the progress of the India-Italy Strategic Partnership, with an emphasis on cooperation in areas like defense and new technologies. They also noted the need for G7 and G20 to work in harmony for global well-being.
As per the ongoing COP28 Summit, the event is being presided over by the UAE from November 28 to December 12, further showcasing PM Modi’s active participation in global climate action. With the conscientious strides towards international cooperation and commitment to environmental sustainability, PM Modi’s endeavours continue to make waves on the global stage.
