Ola, the popular ride-hailing company, has responded to the recent incident of an electric scooter catching fire in Pune. According to Ola, their investigation into the incident has revealed that aftermarket parts used in the scooter caused a short circuit, resulting in the fire. However, the company has assured that the battery of the vehicle is intact and functional.
In addition, Ola has confirmed that the customer involved in the incident is safe and unharmed. The video of the fire was shared by a user on X, who mentioned that the scooter involved was an Ola S1 model. The incident took place near the parking lot of D.Y Patil College in Pimpri Chinchwad. The news was first reported by Pune Mirror.
The video footage shows thick smoke emanating from the scooter, with the fire brigade team using a water hose to control the flames. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported, but the scooter suffered severe damage. This is not the first time Ola’s electric scooters have been involved in such incidents in Pune. Another Ola S1 Pro scooter caught fire in the Dhanori area earlier in March 2022.
Furthermore, in July of this year, an Ola electric scooter worth Rs 149,000 also caught fire at a residence in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram district. Similarly, another X user reported a fire incident with the Ola S1 Pro on October 20. The user, Abhijeeth Singh, shared his experience, stating that his Ola S1 Pro caught fire around midnight on August 24. The user managed to extinguish the fire after some effort and shared a picture of the extensively damaged vehicle.
These incidents raise concerns about the safety of Ola’s electric scooters and underline the importance of using genuine parts to avoid any potential risks. Ola has yet to respond with any specific measures or actions they plan to take to address these safety issues. As more and more people turn to electric scooters as a sustainable transportation option, it becomes essential for companies like Ola to prioritize safety and ensure the quality of their products.
