Nvidia will not release a new line of laptop GPUs along with the rumored desktop refreshes of the RTX 4070 and 4080 at CES 2024, according to reports. XMG and Moore’s Law is Dead confirm that laptops with new Nvidia graphics cards are not planned in the near future. Moreover, sources at Nvidia have suggested that the next notebook GPUs from Team Green won’t be available until 2025.
There are speculations that the release of RTX 5000 models may be revealed at CES 2025, following the launch of next-gen Blackwell desktop GPUs late in 2024. However, a leaked roadmap suggested that Nvidia may be aiming for an early 2025 release for these desktop graphics cards, pushing the laptop GPUs further into 2025.
Despite the lack of new laptop GPUs, Nvidia is expected to reveal the desktop refreshes of the RTX 4070 and 4080 at CES 2024. The existing Lovelace mobile GPUs from Nvidia still offer compelling performance levels for gaming laptops, although there are upcoming challengers from AMD, such as the Radeon RX 7900M.
Overall, the lack of any new laptop GPUs at CES 2024 doesn’t come as a surprise, and the possibility of a CES 2025 launch for these notebook graphics solutions is becoming more likely. While the release of next-gen RTX 5000 desktop graphics cards may not align with the theorized timeframe, Nvidia’s special event at CES 2024 is still anticipated to introduce some revamped Lovelace models, albeit without any new laptop partners.
