Proton VPN Launches New Linux App

Proton VPN has just launched a new application for Linux, providing users with the same functionality as other devices. This move aims to eliminate the need for Linux users to compromise on features and design for the sake of improved privacy.

The provider, committed to helping all users break free from Big Tech and use a free operating system with privacy at its core, included a full VPN service for Linux. However, it continued to listen to its community’s requests for something better.

According to Samuele Kaplun, Proton VPN lead, the company recognizes the lackluster software options available on Linux and the companies’ failure to provide the same functionality or user experience that’s offered to Mac or Windows users.

While Proton VPN had already offered a VPN app for Linux for over two years, it aimed to deliver the full range of functionality and design benefits that users need and deserve. The challenge the company faced was coping with the fragmentation of distribution in the Linux market, leading them to rebuild the application from scratch.

The new Proton VPN Linux app comes equipped with advanced security and privacy features, offering DNS filtering to block intrusive ads, NetShield to ensure IP address protection, VPN Accelerator technology to deliver faster performance, and more.

The range of security and privacy features is expected to grow in the future to match Proton’s applications across all other platforms. Proton VPN also plans to add support for the popular WireGuard protocol and a command-line interface.

Proton VPN’s ambition is to provide all users with security and privacy benefits without compromising, regardless of the operating system they use.
