Tata Motors, one of the leading automobile manufacturers in India, has announced its plans to continuously update its SUV range in order to stay competitive in the rapidly growing segment. The company recognizes that sports utility vehicles are driving the overall growth of the domestic passenger vehicle segment.
According to the latest data from SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers), SUV sales account for 60% of the overall passenger vehicle sales in the country. In an interview with PTI (Press Trust of India), Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, emphasized the importance of focusing on individual products and their appeal to buyers in such a highly contested market.
Chandra revealed that Tata Motors holds a leadership position in certain SUV sub-segments and aims to consolidate its position in others. The company’s Punch and Nexon models have established themselves as market leaders in their respective segments, while the Harrier Safari combo has secured second place in its vertical.
To strengthen its SUV portfolio further, Tata Motors recently launched updated versions of its popular Harrier and Safari models. With prices starting at Rs 15.49 lakh and Rs 16.19 lakh respectively, these new versions have received top safety ratings from the vehicle safety group Global NCAP. Chandra proudly stated that Tata Motors’ SUVs are the safest spaces on Indian roads, with their impressive 5-star GNCAP rating.
Looking ahead, Chandra revealed that Tata Motors has plans to introduce two more models, Curvv and Sierra, in 2024 and 2025 respectively. He emphasized that Tata Motors’ strength in the SUV segment will continue to remain strong, as the company consistently focuses on product excellence.
Global NCAP, in a separate statement, confirmed the exceptional safety performance of Tata Motors’ latest SUVs. Both the new Safari and Harrier models achieved the highest-ever scores for adult and child occupant safety in the crash tests conducted by Global NCAP on Indian cars. Alejandro Furas, Secretary General of Global NCAP, praised Tata Motors for their commitment to developing safer vehicles.
Tata Motors’ SUVs have gained recognition not only for their safety features but also for their design and performance. As the competition in the SUV segment intensifies, Tata Motors remains determined to maintain its market leadership and deliver exceptional products to its customers.
