Uttar Pradesh Sets Record with Largest Kanya Pujan Ceremony in Gonda District
Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh has achieved a remarkable feat by hosting the largest Kanya Pujan ceremony in the country. This event took place under the Chief Minister’s Mission Shakti Abhiyan and saw the participation of 11,880 young girls from different sections and development blocks of the district.
The grand “Shakti Vandan” ceremony was organized by the district administration at Shaheed Azam Bhagat Singh College campus. As a symbol of women’s self-reliance and motherly power, Mission Shakti Cafe and Mission Shakti Wall were inaugurated during the ceremony.
Furthermore, the event also honored nine women from the district who have made significant contributions in various fields with the prestigious Navdevi Award.
One notable aspect of the entire program was its zero-waste approach, with careful disposal of generated waste. Approximately 138 kg of wet waste and about 70 kg of dry waste were properly managed. A compost pit was prepared to convert the wet waste into fertilizer, while the dry waste was segregated into glass, plastic bottles, paper waste, and polythene and sent to the respective waste units.
In addition to the worship of the participating girls, sanitation kits and nutrition bundles were distributed. The district administration also took the opportunity to honor women who have brought glory to India through the Mission Shakti Wall, which highlights the message of Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao (Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter). This wall celebrates women who have excelled in various fields, both nationally and internationally.
The Shakti Vandan ceremony also recognized the outstanding work of nine “Matri Shaktis” from the district. Initially, the target was to organize the Kanya Puja program for 11,000 girls, but due to the relentless efforts of the district administration, the number surpassed expectations, with 11,888 girls worshipped.
This event not only showcased the importance of empowering young girls but also highlighted the commitment of the district administration to environmental sustainability and women’s achievements. The Kanya Pujan ceremony in Gonda district has undoubtedly set a new benchmark for such events in the country.
