Apple has recently unveiled the Vision Pro headset, which allows the capture of 3D spatial videos using an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, until the recent launch of iOS 17.2 beta 2, this capability was not available.
The new beta version of iOS 17.2 has introduced the ability to record 3D spatial videos using just the main and ultra wide cameras of the iPhone. This means that no additional equipment is needed to start creating videos for the Vision Pro headset.
It’s important to note that the Vision Pro headset has not been released yet and is expected to be available in early 2024. However, users can start filming videos for use in 3D apps built using Apple’s frameworks, such as RealityKit.
To enable spatial video capture on an iPhone, users need to be running iOS 17.2 beta 2. Once updated, they can access the spatial video option in the Camera settings and begin filming 3D-enabled videos.
According to Apple, videos captured in this way will be recorded at 1080p and 30fps, with a minute of footage taking up approximately 130MB of space. It’s essential to ensure that there is enough storage available before recording.
While the Vision Pro headset will eventually allow video capture using the device itself, for now, users are limited to using a compatible iPhone. However, the introduction of this feature is a promising preview of the possibilities to come with the Vision Pro headset.
