WhatsApp has further enhanced its Chat Lock feature by introducing Secret Codes to add an extra layer of security to private chat rooms. This new development seeks to address potential privacy concerns in shared devices.
Chat Lock currently places conversations into a separate folder, which can be opened only using the phone’s password or biometric login. However, the existing feature does not prevent others with access to the password from viewing the chats. With Secret Codes, users can now set up a separate password specifically for accessing locked chats, providing additional protection.
To access hidden chats, users will need to directly enter the recently created code into the search bar on the main page. WhatsApp also offers the option to keep locked folders visible when necessary. Locking chats is now more convenient as well, with users able to long-press a conversation, tap the three dots in the upper right corner, and select Lock Chat in the drop-down menu.
To add a secret code, users can tap the three dots in the top right corner, then select Chat Lock Settings. By activating Secret Code and creating a password, users can hide locked chats with this extra layer of security. Additionally, the password can incorporate emojis for added creativity. The update will be available globally in the coming months.
WhatsApp has been busy with several new updates recently, including the ability to send self-destructing photos and videos on the desktop app, as well as AI assistants with unique personalities for select users. These developments demonstrate that big things are happening on WhatsApp, with no signs of slowing down. For the latest updates, users are encouraged to follow TechRadar’s official WhatsApp channel.
